背景介绍
Beta-hexosaminidase is involved in catalysis of degradation of the ganglioside GM2. Disfunction of beta-hexosaminidase leads to an accumulation of GM2 ganglioside in neurons and neurodegenerative disorders termed the GM2 gangliosidoses. The enzyme is composed of two subunits, alpha and beta. This gene encodes alpha subunit of beta-hexosaminidase, The antibody, 11317-1-AP, can recognize both alpha and beta subunit of beta-hexosaminidase. The mature alpha subunit is composed of a major 54kd polypeptide and a minor 6kd polypeptide. The mature beta-subunit originates from its precursor by two proteolytic cleavage events forming 3 chains: 11kd, 24kd and 28kd.
